Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  What do I get when I purchase the Guidelines?

A.

A CD with the Guidelines and all associated files, updates for 12 months and email support for 12 months (click here for details)

Q.  Am I committed to paying an annual cost?

A.

No. The initial purchase of the package is a one-off payment. You only need to pay if you decide to take subsequent updates.

Q.  Do I have to take the updates?

A.

No.  Once you have received the updates for the first 12 months (part of the initial package), it's up to you whether you want to continue with the updates or not. Although we strongly recommend that you continue to take the updates, you don't have to do so.  We will advise you when your updates are due for renewal and it will be you decision whether to continue or not.

Q.  Can I put the the Guidelines on my company's intranet?

A.

Yes, provided that access to the intranet is restricted to the Company's employees.  Posting the Guidelines on a restricted access, Company intranet is what most users do to make the Guidelines available to all their operations.

Q.  Can I put the Guidelines on our internet web site?
A.

Absolutely not.  This will be a serious breach of the Purchasing Agreement. Posting the guidelines on the internet will make them available to others, and the Purchasing Agreement clearly states that the Purchaser may "use the Guidelines solely for the purposes of  its operations and for no other business, company or organization, without the expressed prior written permission of ES&H International." and that the Purchaser may not "sell, give or otherwise disclose the contents of this Guidelines to any other party".

Q.  Can I change the Guidelines?
A.

Yes.  You can change them in any way you like.  But you have to remember that:

  • if you change the Guidelines, you will need to transfer these changes to the updated guidelines whenever they are issued; and

  • the copyright for the Guidelines is still the property of ES&H International (i.e. you may not give, sell or make them available to any third party - even in their modified form).

Q.  When do I get the updates and what do they include?
A.

Updates are issued twice a year (in January and July) and include changes to regulations, directives and rules (new, amended, revoked, etc), changes to ANSI and ISO standards, new and added publications, modifications and improvements, and new guidelines, as applicable.

Q.  How do I know what has changed in any update?

A.

Update are issued with an 'Update Summary of Changes' document which lists all the major changes in the update and the documents that have changed.  In addition, changes in individual documents (including the guidelines) are highlighted in an easy-to-spot yellow highlight (see our Sample Guidelines)..

Q.  Can the guidelines be made less generic and more specific to my company?

A.

Absolutely yes.  We have done this for other companies (click here for details)
